The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden is currently presenting its special exhibition "Body. Gaze. Power. A Cultural History of the Bath".

The exhibition "will focus on a global social practice as old as humanity itself. Although bathing has always been associated with rituals of cleanliness, links are revealed over the centuries that go far beyond issues of hygiene, health, or a sense of well-being. In fact, the bath as a location and the act of bathing were always ideologically, religiously, socially, and culturally charged, and still are today", as stated in the announcement text.

"Body. Gaze. Power. A Cultural History of the Bath" was developed in cooperation with Marseille’s Mucem and will be shown not only at Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, but at various locations in the spa town.

Baden-Baden is one of our Associated Partners and we are delighted about this wonderful exhibition, which is close to the research interests and agenda of The European Spa Project.

In spring the museum, like most cultural institutions, is closed due to the corona virus epidemic. Whoever misses the exhibition or cannot come to Baden-Baden for other reasons has the chance to wait for the publication of the extensive catalogue.
