From 5 to 17 October 2020, PI Lund Wiebke Kolbe is on a research stay in Baden-Baden. She is working at the town archive, looking for material on the history of Baden-Baden, a truly transnational German spa town. She started her research with looking through the registration office´ s records from 1881-83, in search of foreign labour flocking into the spa town for the summer season. And indeed, she found many waiters, maids and cooks from France, Italy, Russia, Switzerland and Austria who came to Baden-Baden to work there during the season from May to October. However, the majority of the hotel and restaurant staff originated from the surrounding countries Baden and Württemberg. The spa guests were thus more international than the people serving them.
